BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The public can now easily identify locally made wood products with the launch of the ‘Brunei Wood Product’ logo at the National Wood Products Expo of Brunei Darussalam held at OneCity Shopping Complex on Thursday (Oct 17)

The expo, held in conjunction with the International Day of Forests, will run until Oct 20.

The four-day expo, organised by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism through the Forestry Department, was officiated by Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Dr Abdul Manaf Metussin.

The event features a furniture-making competition, focusing on school furniture and study room products.

Acting Director of Forestry Reni Yahya explained that the logo will certify that wood products are made in Brunei and meet high-quality standards.

He hopes the logo will enhance the image of local wood products, both nationally and internationally, and emphasised the importance of using sustainable and traceable forest materials.

After the launch, the minister toured the exhibition, which included booths from the Forestry Department, Brunei Economic Development Board, Bank Usahawan and 21 local wood product companies.

Local furniture products competing in the Wood Furniture Making Competition were also on display.

This year’s competition features two categories: one for sawmill and timber companies to produce student chairs and tables, and another for micro-entrepreneurs to create cupboards or bookshelves.

The expo aims to promote local wood products, raise public awareness, and facilitate business connections within the wood industry. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
