JAKARTA: Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) chairman and the youngest son of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Kaesang Pangarep, announced the birth of his first child, a daughter, on Tuesday (Oct 15).

Kaesang said the family had already planned for his wife, Erina Gudono, to give birth to their daughter, named Bebingah Sang Tansahayu, in Jakarta.

"I'm from Jakarta. I was born here, and my ID card confirms it. So, it was planned from the start in Jakarta with Dr Ivan as my doctor," Kaesang said on Wednesday, as quoted by kompas.com.

He also mentioned that President Jokowi would visit his sixth grandchild later in the evening, as the President was currently on a working visit to Aceh.

So far, Kaesang's older brother, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and sister-in-law, Selvi Ananda, have visited the newborn. Their mother, Iriana Joko Widodo, and Kaesang's parents-in-law were also present at the hospital.

“Only Gibran and Selvi have visited. Dad actually has work, so he just called," said Kaesang.

The daughter was born by caesarean section at Bunda Hospital in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Before Erina’s delivery, the pair’s trip to the United States in August caused public controversy over allegations that as members of the President’s family they accepted gratuities in the form of private jet travel.

Kaesang visited the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Sept 17 to clarify the issue. He said that he had travelled on a friend’s private jet while accompanying Erina, who is set to start her master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania.

PSI politician Raja Juli Antoni also confirmed that Kaesang had been back in Jakarta on Aug 28. - The Jakarta Post/ANN
