Laos keeps close eye on rising water in Mekong River as thousands are affected by heavy rains and flooding

VIENTIANE (Xinhua): Laos has been keeping a close eye on the Mekong River and its main tributaries as water levels have risen after continuous heavy rainfalls, while people living near rivers have stayed alert and prepared for flooding.

The water level of the Mekong River section in the Lao capital Vientiane was recorded at 11.80 meters on Friday, exceeding the warning level of 11.50 meters and nearing the danger level of 12.50 meters, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology under the Lao Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
