Dangerous heat index forecast in 32 areas in Philippines; Virac to hit 47°C

MANILA: Virac, Catanduanes is expected to have the highest heat index on Thursday (June 13) at 47 °C, the state weather bureau said.

The heat index under the “danger” category ranges from 42°C to 51°C, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The heat index in Metro Manila and 30 other areas nationwide is likewise forecast to hit the “danger” level.

Pagasa said its station at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay is expected to record a heat index of 44 °C while its station Science Garden station in Quezon City is forecast to log 42°C.

Pagasa said that prolonged exposure, to the heat index in these areas may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion and even heat stroke.
