Brunei King to hold state visit to Timor-Leste; first visit by ruler to country since relations established in 2022

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Brunei King Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah will hold a state visit to Timor-Leste on Monday (May 20) at the invitation of President of Timor-Leste Dr Jose Ramos-Horta.

While in Dili, Timor-Leste, Sultan Hassanal is expected to attend a ceremony to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of Timor-Leste’s Independence Restoration Day, as well as hold separate meetings with Dr Jose Ramos-Horta and Timor-Leste Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao.

The state visit will mark His Majesty’s first visit to Timor-Leste.

Diplomatic relations were established on May 20, 2022, where both countries enjoy warm and friendly ties in education and people-to-people exchanges.

The visit will also provide the opportunity for both leaders to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
