Pia Wurtzbach to receive Global Fashion Influencer of the Year award

MANILA: Given her blossoming presence in the fashion industry, beauty queen-actress Pia Wurtzbach (pic) is set to be honoured as the Global Fashion Influencer of the Year at the fourth edition of the EMIGALA Fashion & Beauty Awards in Dubai, happening on April 27–28.

EMIGALA shared the news on their Instagram page, and according to its YouTube channel’s bio, the event is “a star-studded ceremony that aims at honouring various members and contributors to the fashion and beauty industries, both regionally and globally.”

“The EMIGALA focuses on highlighting the different lifestyles and cultures present in different parts of the globe and how they are reflected and interpreted in the world of fashion and beauty,” continued their description.

Despite being a first-time attendee at the Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks last year, Wurtzbach secured the sixth spot in the list of “most visible influencers” by Lefty.io, an influencer marketing platform, after she earned US$2.95 million (PHP166.9 million) in media value (EMV) due to her social media presence during the fashion weeks.

“I’ve done New York Fashion Week before. When you are Miss Universe, they usually put you in fashion week, and it is usually the one in New York. I did a few [shows] in New York, but I never experienced the ones in Europe like Milan or Paris,” she told CNN Philippines at the time.

Wurtzbach’s husband, Jeremy Jauncey, penned a heartfelt message for his wife at the time, as she made efforts to fulfill her dream of making her mark in the international fashion scene.

“Quietly, under the radar, you grinded. And grinded. And grinded. And despite even as early as this year being told you’d never make it to fashion weeks and your best years were behind you, you did. And you delivered. To a level even we didn’t hope for in our wildest dreams,” he wrote.

The 2015 Miss Universe was constantly compared to Heart Evangelista, who’s a mainstay at fashion weeks.

Given the hate comments both women receive on their Instagram posts relating to fashion weeks, Wurtzbach reminded the bashers and her followers to “stop pitting women against each other,” as she affirmed that “there is so much room in this world for everyone to shine.” - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
