MANILA: Queen P has embodied the ideal of “confidently beautiful with a heart” as Miss Universe since her 2015 win, and she’s not stopping anytime soon.

Amid the glitz and glamour of high society, Pia Wurtzbach recently received the People of the Year 2024 award from PeopleAsia for her remarkable contributions to society and her unwavering advocacy for HIV/AIDS awareness and LGBT rights.

Taking to Instagram, the advocate and beauty queen offered a glimpse of her ensemble for the evening—a resplendent, body-hugging, bedazzled gold gown designed by Mark Bumgarner.

Reflecting on her journey since clinching the crown nearly a decade ago, the actress and author expressed gratitude for being recognized with the prestigious accolade.

“Feeling incredibly grateful for receiving the People of the Year award at such a pivotal moment in my journey,” she shared.

“As I reflect on the past 10 years since my Miss Universe win, I’m reminded even more of the importance of advocating for HIV/AIDS awareness and LGBT rights.”

She further states that the award symbolises her dedication to creating a world where everyone feels safe and accepted.

In a stirring call to action, Wurtzbach emphasised the collective effort needed to drive positive change and uplift communities, and that she’s just getting started.

“Almost 10 years, but we’re just getting started. Let’s work together to leave a lasting legacy of positive change and impact countless lives for the better.” she urged.

Teasing an upcoming project in collaboration with LoveYourself, Inc., which offers sexual health, mental health and trans health services, Wurtzbach hinted at a future initiative aimed at empowering individuals and championing inclusivity.

“Stay tuned for more updates on this dream project that I am going to fulfill with @loveyourself.ph. Kaya natin ‘to!” - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
