YANGON: Efforts are being made to preserve the endangered Myanmar golden deer in the Shwesettaw Wildlife Sanctuary and prevent its disappearance, head of the Shwesettaw Wildlife Sanctuary U Aung San told Xinhua on Friday (March 22).
The golden deer is a rare species in Myanmar, and without proper preservation efforts, they are at risk of disappearing entirely, he said.
Preserving these animals is crucial, as it not only ensures their survival but also contributes to the preservation of the forest ecosystem, which plays a vital role in maintaining weather conditions, he added.
According to U Aung San, the number of golden deer in the Shwesettaw Wildlife Sanctuary is approximately 1,106 in 2020, 653 in 2021, 1,386 in 2022, and 559 in 2023.
