Laos to improve well-being of children, mothers in rural areas

VIENTIANE: The Lao Ministry of Health has been taking steps to improve the well-being of children and mothers in rural communities with the launch of a new health project.

The ministry signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to kick off the Community Health and Nutrition System Strengthening project together with the Unicef and World Vision, funded by USAID, the Center of Information and Education for Health under the Lao Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday (Feb 20).

The project, to be carried out in nine districts of Khammuan, Savannakhet and Attapeu provinces, will support around 30,000 children, adolescents and pregnant women in rural communities with improved knowledge and skills in health and nutrition and enhance the capacities of 89 health centers. The project is set to run until March 2025.

The project aims to fortify the front line of healthcare delivery, ensuring that the most remote communities receive care and attention. - Xinhua
