Brunei top 10 in 5G download speed, mobile Internet speed in Asia-Pacific, Malaysia takes 2nd spot

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei Darussalam has the 10th fastest 5G download speed in the Asia-Pacific region with 149.6 megabits per second (Mbps), according to Opensignal.

South Korea topped the region with 436.7Mbps, Malaysia in second with 337.7Mbps, Singapore in third with 292.9Mbps, India in fourth with 280.7Mbps and New Zealand fifth with 259.6Mbps.

Meanwhile, the Sultanate ranked in seventh place for mobile Internet speed with 47.2Mbps.

South Korea came in first place with 140.2Mbps, followed by Singapore in second with 71.1Mbps and Australia third with 58.5Mbps.

Opensignal stated substantial improvements in speeds have been observed in most markets, with analysis focused on selected markets in Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa, and Asia Pacific.

“Those improvements seen by our users can be largely attributed to the continued deployment of 5G, rising 5G adoption and improved use of available spectrum assets.”

“Asia Pacific markets saw an improvement of 5.2Mbps on the average, while India, Malaysia and South Korea saw the highest speed increases in the region of 36.1Mbps, 17.9Mbps and 14.8Mbps, respectively,” Opensignal added.

Meanwhile, 5G provides subscribers with faster speeds and lower latency compared to 4G and enables devices to load websites quicker and run apps smoother, resulting in better experience.

At the height of the pandemic, most countries in Asia-Pacific improved their 5G rollout to support the growing demand for digital transactions.

The region is projected to become one of the biggest 5G markets by 2025. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
