BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei has experienced eight days of excessive hot weather this month, from August 8 to 15, 2026. This month, several Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) Automatic Weather Stations recorded daily maximum temperatures of at least 35 degrees Celsius (°C).
The highest temperature of 37.5°C was recorded at the Anggerek Desa Automatic Weather Station on August 14, followed by 36.9°C at Labi on August 15, 36.7°C at Kuala Belait on August 13, and 36.5°C at both Pekan Bangar and Lakiun on August 15 and August 13. Meanwhile, Bandar Seri Begawan recorded a maximum temperature of 36.2°C on August 13.
The BDMD said that rainfall activity is expected from August 15 to 19, 2026 across several areas of the country, especially the inland region.
However, weather conditions are forecast to return to hot and dry conditions with minimal rainfall activity until the end of the month. Meanwhile, maximum daily temperatures are forecast to range between 33°C and 36°C.
Since August 6, 2026, no significant rainfall has been recorded at the Meteorological Observation Station at the Brunei International Airport. To date, the total rainfall recorded for August 2026 is 101.5mm, which is approximately 56 per cent lower than the normal monthly average for August: 231.5mm.
As of Saturday (Aug 15), five areas recorded excessive hot weather: Bandar Seri Begawan, Anggerek Desa, Lakiun, Bangar and Labi; whereas another five areas have recorded unusual hot weather: Brunei International Airport, Lumapas, Sinaut, Benutan and Kuala Belait.
The Sultanate is currently in the south=west monsoon, which typically persists until the end of September 2026. During the south-west monsoon, atmospheric conditions generally tend to be more stable, resulting in relatively hot and dry weather, with fewer occurrences of showers and thunderstorms.
