MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network): The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed over 32,000 law enforcers nationwide to look after the safety of students and teachers on the first day of classes on Tuesday (Aug 29).

PNP says more than 32,700 cops were dispatched to over 6,000 police assistance desks on school campuses and roads leading to the academic institutions.

“These officers will be on alert, ensuring the protection of students, parents or guardians, and educators against potential opportunistic individuals who may attempt to exploit the situation,” PNP chief General Benjamin Acorda Jr. said in a statement.

To respond to urgent security matters and emergencies, help desks have been set up.

Additionally, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said it would deploy motorcycle units, explosive ordnance disposal experts, and canine groups.

It would also send mobile teams and foot patrols in transportation terminals and other crowded areas.

NCRPO also discussed concerns about public safety, drug abuse, and other crimes with school administrators.
