Lao govt moves step closer to wage hike

VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/Asia News Network): The government has agreed in principle to provide a supporting allowance for low-wage civil servants and to increase the minimum wage for private sector employees to help them deal with rampant inflation.

The cabinet’s monthly meeting, which took place on July 24-25, instructed the officials concerned to identify the actual number of people who will benefit from a wage increase and make a detailed analysis of the government’s capacity to make these extra payments.
