Myanmar exports 361,213 tonnes of rice in Q1

YANGON (Xinhua): Myanmar exported 361,213 tonnes of rice in the first quarter of 2023, as compared to 398,745.39 tonnes registered during the same period last year, according to the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) on Tuesday (April 18).

From January to March this year, the South-East Asian country also exported 260,535 tonnes of broken rice, as compared to 218,777.5 tonnes registered during the same period last year, the MRF's data showed.

China was the top buyer of Myanmar's rice and broken rice between January and March this year, purchasing 114,556 tonnes of rice and 158,690 tonnes of broken rice during the period, the data showed.

Myanmar exported rice and broken rice to China, the Philippines, Bangladesh, European Union countries and others, according to the MRF.

The South-East Asian country shipped most of rice and broken rice via sea routes as it has a long coastline.

In Myanmar, rice is the most cultivated crop followed by beans and pulses.
