Cambodia ready to prove they will be a great host when the 32nd SEA Games begins in Phnom Penh

PHNOM PENH, Jan 28 (Xinhua): Cambodia had celebrated the 100-day countdown to the 32nd South-East Asian (SEA) Games, with a fireworks display, a drumbeat, martial arts performance, songs and dance.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen. Tea Banh, who is also the chairman of the Cambodia SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC), said the countdown affirmed the kingdom's readiness to welcome all athletes, sports officials, and visitors to the 32nd SEA Games.

"With just 100 days to go, Cambodia will mark its sports legacy and fulfill its dream by hosting the SEA Games for the first time in 64 years," he said at the event held at the Morodok Techo National Stadium on the capital's northern suburb.

Tourism Minister Thong Khon, president of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, said that "Sports: Live in Peace" was chosen as the Games' motto to highlight how peace has been integral for Cambodia's sports development.

"Through peace, the country is enjoying stability and rapid development across many sectors," he said.

He said the SEA Games is a chance to promote friendship, respect, and solidarity to build a peaceful, stable, and resilient Southeast Asian community.

At the event, there was also a sports pictogram display and mascot souvenirs to be given to chefs de mission from 11 Southeast Asian countries and regions.

The 32nd SEA Games is scheduled from May 5 to 17. The kingdom will also host the 12th Asean Para Games from June 3 to 9.

Economy and Finance Ministry's Standing Secretary of State Vongsey Vissoth said Wednesday that the kingdom is estimated to spend at least 200 million U.S. dollars for the organization of the Games. - Xinhua
