Brunei begins annual labour census on Oct 31

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network): The annual census of employers, employees, wages, earnings and hours of work for 2022 will begin on Oct 31 via online form, said the Labour Department.

The department calls for all private sector business entities, private institutions, cooperatives, associations, clubs and statutory bodies operating in Brunei Darussalam, whether having foreign workers licences, or only employing local workers to provide or complete the information of workers (local and foreign).

This includes information on employers, owners and managers, who are still working with the entities up to and including October 30 this year.

The department said the census will be conducted via the business reporting system, with online forms at www.business.mofe.gov.bn/SitePages/OBR.aspx.

Households and private services are exempted from completing the census. The census must be completed using employer’s, owner’s or manager’s username obtainable through e-Darussalam.

Guidelines on how to complete the census information can also be downloaded from website or www.labour.gov.bn.

All completed census information will only be accepted via the online form, effective on Oct 31. Deadline for receiving census information is on Nov 30.

Employers, owners and managers are also advised and requested to complete the census information of their respective entities by themselves to avoid the misuse of the confidential census information by a third party completing the form on their behalf.

Under the law, any employers who wilfully refuses or neglects to furnish the particulars or information required within the time allowed, furnishes or causes to be furnished any false particulars or gives a false answer to any question necessary for obtaining any information or particulars required is committing an offence and liable to a fine of BND2,500 and imprisonment of six months.

If continuously, a further fine of BND50 a day will be charged.
