MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network): Shortly after the departure honours for him in Malacañang, former President Rodrigo Duterte went to a posh mall in Makati City to unwind, where he received a rock star-level reception from the crowds.
Before stepping down from office at noon on Thursday (June 30), Duterte met with his successor, newly-elected President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr, at the Palace.
Marcos paid a courtesy call on Duterte and witnessed the departure honours before his inauguration at the National Museum in Manila City.
Duterte did not attended the oath-taking of his successor.
Later, social media users posted photos of Duterte at a mall. According to one individual, he saw the president at the mall and took photos of him around noon.
Duterte is set to return to his hometown in Davao City within the day via a commercial flight, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon shared.
Earlier, Duterte said that he would hunt for criminals and teach in his hometown after his six-year term ended.
