YANGON, June 14 (Xinhua): Myanmar's Anti-Narcotics Task Force has seized over 1.6 billion kyats (US$864,864) worth of heroin and stimulant pills in Mandalay region, a police statement said on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the anti-narcotics agents seized 40.7 kg heroin and 400,000 stimulant tablets from a vehicle in Myitnge town of Mandalay region on June 11, it said.
Police also arrested two suspects in the operation. Further investigations were underway, it added.
Meanwhile, Myanmar on Monday night reported nine new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number to 613,452, according to the Health Ministry.
The health authorities tested 7,372 people for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, and the daily positivity rate was 0.12 percent.
It added that the death toll from Covid-19 in the southeast Asian country remained unchanged at 19,434, with no new deaths reported in the past 24 hours.
The total number of patients who have recovered from Covid-19 in the country reached 592,432 on Monday, including eight new recoveries. - Xinhua
