Vietnam reports 2,227 new Covid-19 cases; total infections now almost 10.7 as of Friday (May 13)

HANOI, May 13 (Xinhua): Vietnam recorded 2,227 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, down by 1,723 from Thursday, according to its Ministry of Health.

Among the new infections, only one was imported and the rest were domestically transmitted reported in 53 provinces and cities.

The Vietnamese capital Hanoi was the pandemic hotspot with 495 new cases recorded on Friday, followed by the central Nghe An province with 123 and the northern Phu Tho province with 120.

Also on Friday, health authorities in the northern Bac Giang province reported 443 previously detected Covid-19 infections.

The newly reported infections brought the total tally to 10,693,141 with 43,063 deaths in the South-East Asian country.

Nationwide, as many as 9,344,029 Covid-19 patients, or more than 87 percent of the total infections, have so far recovered.

More than 216.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the country, including over 196.9 million shots on people aged 18 and above, said the ministry.

Vietnam has by far gone through four coronavirus waves of increasing scale, complication, and infectivity.

As of Friday, it has registered nearly 10.7 million locally transmitted Covid-19 cases since the start of the current wave of infections in April 2021, said the health ministry. - Xinhua
