Muslims in Indonesia and Thailand join Malaysia in celebrating Aidilfitri on Monday (May 2) as Singapore confirms Tuesday (May 3)

KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 (Bernama): Neighbours Indonesia and Thailand will join Malaysia in celebrating Aidilfitri on Monday (May 2), while Singapore will celebrate on Tuesday (May 3).

Keeper of the Ruler's Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad announced tonight Muslims in Malaysia will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Monday.

"In keeping with the command of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, following the consent of the Rulers, I hereby declare that the date for Hari Raya Puasa for the states in Malaysia has been set for Monday, May 2, 2022,” he said.

The announcement was broadcast over local television networks.

In Jakarta, Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas announced the celebration date at his ministry tonight.

In Bangkok, Sheikul Islam of Thailand, Aziz Phitakkumpon also announced that Muslims in the kingdom will celebrate Aidilfitri on Monday

"So, with due process, I declare Monday, May 2 as the first day of Eid Al-Fitri,” Aziz said in the announcement broadcast live by the local television stations.

Meanwhile, southern neighbour Singapore will not be joining Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand in celebrating Aidilfitri on Monday.

Singapore Mufti Dr Nazirudin Mohd Nasir tonight announced that the first day of Syawal 1443H/2022 falls on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

"According to the ‘hisab’ (calculation), the crescent moon of Syawal is unlikely to be seen on the horizon of Singapore when the sun sets this afternoon and also does not meet the conditions of the ‘imkanur rukyah’ criteria that have been agreed by the member countries of MABIMS.
