Joan Cornellà NFT project apologises over copyright infringement of film starring Hong Kong ‘King of Comedy’ Stephen Chow

A non-fungible token (NFT) project started by a Hong Kong company has apologised for issuing a digital collectible inspired by a film directed by and starring home-grown comedian Stephen Chow Sing-chi without authorisation, as global crypto players scramble to address incidents of intellectual property right infringement.

Spanish artist Joan Cornellà gifted an image inspired by the lead character in Chow’s 1994 comedy From Beijing with Love to the actor, said Fwenclub. The project, launched by the creative agency AllRightsReserved, said it did not seek permission from the movie’s copyright owner Gala Film Distribution Limited, and that any resemblance to Chow’s character was a “mistaken belief.”
