PHNOM PENH, April 10 (PHnom Penh Post/ANN): Cambodia's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn said Cambodia has a strong commitment to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations, as recently raised by Prime Minister Hun Sen during his meeting with outgoing UN resident coordinator in Cambodia Pauline Tamesis.
Sokhonn reaffirmed the commitment while meeting with Tamesis on April 8.
According to the ministry's press statement released after the meeting, Sokhonn and Tamesis lauded good cooperation between Cambodia and the UN and expressed their committment to strengthen it.
Sokhonn also thanked the UN in Cambodia for providing, among others, financial and technical assistance, Covid-19 vaccines through COVAX and medical equipment to help Cambodia contain the pandemic.
Sokhonn said Cambodia was proud to have ranked second in Asia and the Pacific region in Covid-19 vaccination drive which has enabled the government to reopen the country since last November.
He also thanked the UN for supporting Cambodia in its implementation of climate action plans and preparation of legal and policy documents as well as technical guidelines to improve public institutions and respect of human rights.
Tamesis also spoke highly of Cambodia’s socio-economic growth, contribution to peacekeeping, Covid-19 fight, as well as good cooperation between Cambodia and UN agencies. - Phnom Penh Post/ANN
