Vietnam reports 130,735 new Covid-19 cases as total now goes above 8.3 million on Tuesday (March 22)

HANOI, March 22 (Xinhua): Vietnam reported 130,735 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, down 978 cases from Monday, according to the Ministry of Health.

The new infections, logged in 62 localities nationwide, included 130,731 domestically transmitted and four imported.

The Vietnamese capital Hanoi remained the epidemic hotspot with 16,014 cases on Tuesday, followed by the northern Phu Tho province with 5,920 cases and the central Nghe An province with 4,820 cases.

On the same day, health authorities also documented 118,418 Covid-19 cases detected earlier in four northern localities of Thai Binh, Hung Yen, Quang Ninh, and Vinh Phuc.

The infections brought the total tally to 8,338,914, with 42,014 deaths. Nationwide, as many as 4,468,805 COVID-19 patients, or 54 percent of the infections, have so far recovered.

More than 202 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the country, including 185 million shots on people aged 18 and above, said the ministry.

Vietnam has by far gone through four coronavirus waves of increasing scale, complication and infectivity.

As of Tuesday, it has registered over 8.3 million locally transmitted Covid-19 cases since the start of the current wave in April 2021, said the ministry. - Xinhua
