VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/Asia News Network): The National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control on Friday (Nov 26) announced that 1,510 more people had contracted the virus while four people had died after testing positive for Covid.
The new cases were detected across all provinces.
One of those who died was a 64-year-old woman from Nakha village in Naxaithong district, Vientiane, who passed away on Thursday at Mittaphap Hospital. She had previously been diagnosed with hypertension but it is not known whether she had been vaccinated against Covid.
A 72-year-old woman from Khamhoung village in Xaythany district, Vientiane, also died on Thursday at Mittaphap Hospital. She suffered from diabetes, hypertension and pulmonary edema and had been fully vaccinated against Covid.
The third death was that of a 44-year-old woman from Chomphet district in Luang Prabang province, who died in hospital on Nov 21. She had not been vaccinated against Covid.
The fourth fatality was a 51-year-old woman from Huayhorm village in Sikhottabong district, Vientiane, who died on Thursday at Setthathirath Hospital. She suffered from diabetes and had been fully vaccinated against Covid.
The 1,510 new Covid cases reported on Friday were identified among 5,627 samples tested on Thursday. Only one of the new cases was detected among people entering Laos.
In Vientiane, 856 new cases were reported in 204 villages of the capital’s nine districts.
