Famous Gadong wet market re-opens for business as Brunei's Covid-19 cases rises above 100 again


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct 29 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): The famous Gadong wet market has resumed operations o in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP) for vendors and visitors.

Members of the public visiting the market must comply with the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) SOPs, including limiting the number of visitors entering the premises, undergoing temperature checks, scanning the QR code upon entry and exit, and wearing a face mask at all times.

The market’s operation times are 6am to 3pm from Monday to Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, and 6am to noon and 2pm to 3pm on Friday.

The building underwent deep cleaning and disinfection prior to the opening.

Vendors, assistants and officials under the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department working at the premises are required to carry outswab tests.

Currently, vendors and assistants are required to have at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

There are also separate entrances and exits for visitors, traders and suppliers.

Antigen rapid test (ART) kits will be provided to vendors and their assistants to be conducted once a week. Each stall is also limited to two vendors as part of the SOP.

Meanwhile, Brunei recorded one death, 113 new Covid-19 cases and three new clusters yesterday, bringing the tally of confirmed cases to 12,823.

Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Mohd Isham Jaafar shared the Covid-19 updates during a press conference in the capital.

On the new Covid-19 cases, Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said, “There are 50 new cases to 11 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.

“The three new clusters involve 27 cases. All the new clusters are accommodation clusters. Two of the clusters – HHY Construction Staffhouse Cluster and KYG Construction Staffhouse Cluster – are housing clusters that accommodate the companies’ employees.

"There are also 36 new cases under investigation to determine the sources of the infection.”

The minister also announced that three clusters have been closed following no new detected cases in 28 days. The closed clusters are Cluster 3095, Cluster 6679 and Cluster 6874. This brings the current active clusters to 174. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
