AKARTA, Oct. 12 (Xinhua): The number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 1,261 within one day to 4,229,813, with the death toll adding by 47 to 142,763, the country's Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
According to the ministry, 2,130 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of patients recovering from COVID-19 to 4,065,425.
To date, at least 58.40 million people in the country have received two shots of vaccines, while 101.36 million have taken the first doses, the ministry added.
The Indonesian government is targeting to vaccinate 208.2 million people.
In a separate incident, an earthquake that has hit Bitung city in Indonesia's eastern province of North Sulawesi was recorded at 5.7 magnitude, triggering no tsunami, the country's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said early Tuesday morning.
The epicentre of the shallow quake was located 122 km to the southeast of Bitung, the agency said, adding that the quake occurred at 7:34 p.m. local time on Monday due to an activity of a plate in the Maluku Sea.
"Results of an analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake has a thrust fault mechanism," the agency's head of earthquake and tsunami center Bambang Setiyo Prayitno said in a statement.
So far, there have been no reports of damages caused by the earthquake, he added.
As of 8.06pm local time on Monday night (Oct 11), there had been two aftershocks, said the official. - Xinhua
