Crucial to accelerate energy transition in Brunei, says minister

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept 15 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Minister of Energy Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Mat Suny Mohd Hussein stressed on the importance of accelerating energy transition, during the Asean Energy Business Forum 2021 (AEBF 2021).

The virtual forum, which runs until tomorrow, is held in parallel with the 39th Asean Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM).

The minister also highlighted the need for Asean to achieve two major targets by 2025: to integrate 23 per cent share of renewables; and to reduce 32 per cent in energy intensity as outlined under Phase II of the Asean Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) for 2021-2025

Held under Brunei Darussalam’s chairmanship, the forum is jointly organised by the Ministry of Energy (ME), the Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam, the Asean Centre of Energy (ACE) and DMG Events.

It presents an influential platform, gathering 10 Asean energy ministers and global energy leaders to deliver strategic debates on the region’s energy investment, future energy plan and policy.

The AEBF 2021 features an enhanced and dedicated high-level strategic conference with three different themes set on each day, namely Asean Energy Sustainability Vision, Accelerating Asean’s Energy Transition, and Net Zero Solutions and Country Investment Briefings.

The forum brings together ASEAN energy leaders, key industry players and expert policymakers to actively discuss strategies to navigate current global dynamics; lessons learned and growth of the industry; promote strategic partnerships, investment opportunities; and enhance industry collaboration in the region and globally.

Additionally, it the event features exhibitions showcasing over 50 international, regional and local exhibitors’ expertise and brands to key leaders and buyers across Asia.

The forum will also host the Ministers – CEOs Dialogue, which will be moderated by Legislative Council member and Asean Business Advisory Council (ABAC) Chair Yang Berhormat Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman.

The dialogue will feature participating chief executive officers (CEOs) from Brunei’s energy sector, including Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) Managing Director Agnete Johnsgaard-Lewis and Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd (Brunei LNG) Managing Director and CEO Hajah Farida Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib.

The AEBF is an annual forum enabling Asean policymakers to showcase national energy framework aspirations and discuss how they can work with businesses to realise these goals, serving as the perfect platform to foster in-country investment missions, as well as bilateral meetings between project owners, investors and integrated energy solution partners.
