Hong Kong plan to tackle doctor shortage expanding to include non-permanent residents trained abroad

Hong Kong health authorities have proposed further relaxing a hiring scheme aimed at tackling the city’s ongoing doctor shortage, opening the door for non-permanent residents to practise as specialists without taking a local licensing exam.

Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan Siu-chee on Tuesday said other planned changes included allowing graduates of foreign medical schools who are permanent residents and able to pass the local licensing exams to intern in Hong Kong.
