BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug 8 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Brunei on Sunday reported 15 new Covid-19 local transmissions and 2 new imported cases, bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases to 364.
In his update on the latest Covid-19 situation in Brunei at a press conference at the Ministry of Health, Commonwealth Drive, Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Mohd Isham Jaafar said that five of the new cases – are close contact to an earlier local patient that was confirmed on Saturday (Aug 7).
Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.
Investigation is currently ongoing to identify the source of infection for three of the cases and Brunei now has three active clusters.
Following the recent increase in Covid-19 cases, the Ministry of Health advised any members of the public who have developed signs of infection, especially those who may have been exposed to any of the clusters to seek treatment and undergo SARS-CoV-2 test as soon as possible at any of the major Covid-19 Swabbing Centres in the country.
The clusters mentioned above include the Starlodge Cluster that was reported yesterday, specifically for anyone who have been to the Starlodge Hotel, Jerudong between 27 July 2021 to 7 August 2021.
The Ministry of Health also announced the revised face mask guidelines and any individual who fails to comply with the directive will be liable to a compound fine of $100 under Chapter 62(A) of the Infectious Diseases Act Chapter 204.
To improve contact tracing efforts, the Ministry of Health will also introduce short message notification via the BruHealth App to anyone who may have been exposed to any newly confirmed Covid-19 cases.
Individuals who have received this notification were required to go immediately to the nearest Covid-19 Swabbing Centre for testing. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
