New Covid-19 infections continue to surge in Laos


VIENTIANE, July 27 (Xinhua): The Lao Ministry of Health on Tuesday reported 169 Covid-19 cases and one new death over the past 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 5,154 cases and six deaths.

The National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control reported 169 imported COVID-19 cases and no new locally transmitted cases, Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Diseases Control under Lao Ministry of Health, Phonepaserd Sayamoungkhoun, told a press conference in Lao capital Vientiane on Tuesday.

Among the imported cases, 85 were reported in Savannakhet province, 60 in Champasak, 10 in Lao capital Vientiane, eight in Saravan, and six in Khammuan province.

The new death involved a 23-year-old woman living in Savannakhet province.

As of Tuesday, a total of 2,707 Covid-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

Laos reported its first two confirmed Covid-19 cases on March 24 last year. Enditem
