Elderly start getting Sinopharm vaccination

THE nation has kicked off the Covid-19 vaccination drive for people aged over 60 with China’s Sinopharm vaccine.

The World Health Organisation and the Lao Ministry of Health have given the green light to vaccinating citizens aged over 60 with the Sinopharm vaccine, as well as those with underlying health conditions, according to a report released by Information and Education Centre for Health under the Lao Health Ministry of Health yesterday.

China’s vaccines are safe, reliable and efficient, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Task Force Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune said at a handover ceremony of the third batch of China-donated Covid-19 vaccines in the Lao capital Vientiane last week.

Kikeo said the Lao side has already vaccinated front line high-risk border personnel, medical workers and some citizens with Sinopharm vaccine.

So far, more than 700,000 people in Laos have received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccines, while over 400,000 people have received the second dose. — Xinhua
