BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, April 30 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Key players and experts in the fields of Islam, forestry, energy and digital technology will gather for a series of conferences and exhibitions in the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) 2021 organised by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) through the Tourism Development Department from June 1-30 at International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas.
Details of the Brunei MYCE 2021 were revealed in a press conference yesterday by Permanent Secretary at the MPRT Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab who is also the deputy chair of Brunei MYCE 2021.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim, Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) Managing Director Hajah Rokiah binti Haji Badar, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Energy and power) at the Ministry of Energy Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) Assistant Rector (Student Affairs and Alumni) Dr Hajah Lilly Suzana binti Haji Shamsu, MYCE Secretariat Noor Rohaya binti Arun and Cityneon Displays and Construction Sdn Bhd Managing Director Dato Jack Ting were also present.
Brunei MYCE 2021 is an initiative to attract MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) tourism market especially business travellers to Brunei Darussalam.
However, due to COVID-19, the event will focus on local participants and international presenters and experts will join the events virtually.
The events will focus on four themes – Islam from June 1-6, Forestry from June 10-13, Energy from June 17-20 and Digital Technology from June 24-30.
The Islamic-themed event will be organised by MoRA, UNISSA, AMBD and Brunei Institute of Leadership and Islamic Finance (BILIF).
Hajah Rokiah said the Brunei Darussalam Islamic Capital Market Forum (BICAM) will be organised jointly by AMBD, BILIF and International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (Malaysia) at the ICC from June 2-3.
Dr Hajah Lilly Suzana said UNISSA with Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Gunung Djati, Bandung (Indonesia); Universiti Malaya (Malaysia) and Prince of Songkla University (Thailand) will organise the International Conference on Islam in Malay World (ICON-IMAD X) where 150 working papers were received from six countries.
The Forestry-themed event will attract local and international participants and presenters from non-governmental organisations (NGOs). The main leads are Forestry Department and Brunei Climate Change Secretariat (BCCS).
Hajah Tutiaty said a conference titled ‘Forests and Its Biodiversity: Unveiling Its Economic Potential’ will take place on June 10-11.
The Energy-themed event will look at Brunei’s 90 years of experience technical expertise in exploration, drilling and extraction, processing and production of oil and gas and its potential contribution to development of clean and sustainable energy sources. The main leads of this theme are the Ministry of Energy in collaboration with Brunei Shell Joint Venture (BSJV) companies and other companies in the energy sector.
Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira said the Ministry of Energy will host an energy cluster week which include seminar, conference and exhibitions from June 24-30. On June 24, there will be the launch of Net Metering and Smaller Scale Solar Programme focussing on instalment of solar roof tops in private homes followed by a symposium and mini expo.
The Digital Technology-themed event will be led by MTIC in collaboration with several companies in the info-communication technology (ICT) sector.
Haji Hairul Mohd Daud said MTIC will organise the Digital Technology Week that will participated by E-Government National Centre (EGNC), Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) and Cyber Security Brunei.
