BANGKOK, Feb 9 (The Nation Thailand/ANN): Pro-active testing among factory workers in six Bangkok districts has revealed no positive cases for the past five days, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) said on Tuesday.
The BMA has since January 28 tested 13,590 people from 127 factories in the districts of Phasi Charoen, Bang Khae, Nong Khaem, Bang Bon, Chom Thong and Bang Khuntien.
So far, only 54 patients have been found, which sets the infection rate for the six districts at just 0.4 per cent.
Despite the good results, the local council encouraged all residents to maintain good hygiene practices, including wiping clean frequently touched areas, wearing masks, washing hands and avoiding crowds.
Meanwhile, Thailand on Tuesday confirmed 189 new COVID-19 cases, mostly domestic infections, according to the Center for the Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
Of Tuesday's new cases, 179 were domestic infections while 10 others were imported cases, said CCSA spokesman Taweesin Visanuyothin.
Thailand has so far confirmed 23,746 cases, 21,185 of which were domestic infections while 2,561 others referred to imported cases, he said.
Of the domestic cases, 13,439 were confirmed via active testing among Myanmar migrants and Thai nationals, mostly at food markets, factories and communities in Samut Sakhon and Bangkok, according to the CCSA spokesman.
So far, 18,366 patients have fully recovered and been released from hospitals while 5,301 others are currently hospitalized and 79 fatalities have been reported, he said. - The Nation Thailand/ANN
