NEW DELHI, Jan 18 (Xinhua): A hospital worker in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh died 24 hours after receiving a Covid-19 vaccine shot, officials said Monday.

However, the health officials say the death appears to be unrelated to vaccination.

The incident took place in Moradabad district.

"He was vaccinated on Saturday around noon. On Sunday he felt breathless and complained of chest congestion," M C Garg, chief medical officer of Moradabad said. "According to the post-mortem report of the deceased, the cause of death was a cardiogenic shock. His heart size had enlarged and weighed around 500 grams, against a normal person's heart of 200 grams."

Singh's family had told media he was unwell before the vaccination.

"My father left the vaccination center around 1.30pm (local time), I brought him home. He was feeling breathless and he was coughing. He had a bit of pneumonia, the usual cough and cold, but he started feeling worse after returning home," Mahipal Singh's son Vishal was quoted in the local media as having said.

On Sunday, India's federal health ministry said 447 cases of Adverse Event Following Immunisation (AEFI) following Covid-19 vaccination have been reported over the past two days and out of them, three required hospitalizations.
