BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, July 20 (Xinhua): Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD), Brunei's de facto central bank, will be commencing survey interviews on selected businesses to develop the Business Sentiment Index (BSI) starting from Aug 1, 2020.
The BSI, a monthly published index, aims to measure the level of business sentiment or confidence in Brunei, while more than 600 businesses have been selected to represent various sectors within the economy.
"Monitoring the level of business sentiment is important, as it acts as a key barometer and leading indicator of business conditions, as well as measuring the overall health of the economy. Business confidence drives business growth and investment, and supports employment opportunities," said AMBD in its latest statement.
According to AMBD, selected businesses will be contacted by AMBD personnel to set appointments for the interview. Respondents will respond to general questions regarding the current and future business conditions, investments, employment of workers, as well as costs of running their businesses.
Brunei on Monday also reported no new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday (July 19) with the national tally standing at 141.
It marked the 73rd consecutive day without new cases.
According to brunei's Ministry of Health, no active cases are being treated at the National Isolation Centre
Meanwhile, 457 people are undergoing mandatory isolation at the monitoring centers provided by the government as they arrived in the country after traveling abroad.
There have been three deaths from COovid-19 in Brunei and a total of 138 patients have recovered. - Xinhua
