BEIJING (Xinhua): China Unicom, one of the country's major telecommunications operators, said Friday it has about 130,000 5G base stations in operation nationwide.

Among the total, 115,000 5G base stations were built jointly with China Telecom, another telecom giant, before the end of May. The 5G base stations provide commercial services in over 50 cities across the country.

The company estimated its 5G base stations would reach 300,000 in number by the end of this year, covering all prefecture-level cities.

The number of 5G base stations in use nationwide has exceeded 200,000, according to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology last month.
