Man, 39, arrested for sedition over racist tweet


KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested a 39-year-old man for sedition over a tweet that allegedly contained racist sentiments.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Zainuddin Ahmad confirmed that the man, Wan Khairul Ihsan Wan Muhammad, was arrested at about 9.10pm Wednesday at Jalan Raja Laut near here.

‎SAC Zainuddin said that Wan Khairul Ihsan was arrested under Section 4(1)C of the Sedition Act 1948.

It was reported that MCA Youth lodged a police report on Tuesday over the tweet posted on Feb 4.

The tweet, which was posted under the Twitter handle @WanKhairulIV, called for a "Malay uprising" for a "war" against the Chinese.

MCA Youth secretary-general Datuk Leong Kim Soon said on Tuesday that such remarks‎ were not only insulting but could cause tension between the Malays and the Chinese.‎
