PETALING JAYA: Security controls at all of Malaysia’s entry points will be stepped up through efficient enforcement, continuous monitoring and inter-agency cooperation, says the Prime Minister.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this was to curb cross-border crimes while safeguarding the country’s safety and sovereignty.
“The entire government machinery and I will always uphold His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia’s decree to strengthen governance, enforcement and national security, ensuring the rakyat’s wellbeing,” he said in a social media post.
In the same post, the Prime Minister said findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will be investigated thoroughly in line with His Majesty’s decree.
“This aligns with the administration’s commitment to ensure all recommendations and findings are swiftly investigated without any compromise.
“Tabung Haji manages funds entrusted by millions of Malaysians, including farmers, civil servants and those from the middle- and lower-income groups who save for years to fulfil pilgrimage.
“Anyone found to have abused that trust must be brought to justice in accordance with the law,” he said.
The declassified RCI report on TH was released on July 29.
Among others, the report recommended a forensic audit into past investment decisions that led to a severe deterioration in TH’s asset value.
The report, which investigated TH’s management and operations between 2014 and 2020, identified several problematic investments that warrant forensic examination.
Anwar said Sultan Ibrahim had also touched on developments involving the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), and that he had briefed the King on the progress of investigations and reports by the special task force.
“The administration remains firmly committed to the principles of good governance, transparency and accountability.
“We will ensure that justice is upheld. Any betrayal of the people’s trust is dealt with firmly, regardless of position or rank,” he said.
On Friday, the Prime Minister had said that Felda had planned to sell a hotel it owned for £100mil (RM551mil), although the hotel had been bought for £160mil (RM883mil).
The planned sale of the UK hotel would have brought a loss of £60mil (RM331mil), he said.
