Woman jogger lost in rainforest park found exhausted

SANDAKAN: A woman jogger was found alive but exhausted after she went missing for five hours at the Sandakan Rainforest Park.

The 24-year-old nurse Ting Ling was found at 12.35am Thursday by rescuers about 3kms from the park after her boyfriend reported her missing at 7.30pm on Wednesday.

Ting, who works at the Duchess of Kent Hospital, was taken to the park headquarters and given immediate medical attention before she was transferred to the hospital for further medical attention.

“She was just exhausted and shaken. She is all right,’’ said Sandakan police chief Asst Comm Zabidi Md Zain.

He said Ling and her boyfriend got separated about an hour after they started jog in the jungle trail at about 6pm.

Realising that she was missing, the boyfriend immediately alerted the park ranger at 7.30pm.

ACP Zabidi said that police teams were assisted by General Operations Force, Civil Defence Department and Fire and Rescue Department and also the police dog unit.

“Six teams, each with between seven to eight personnel entered the forest before she located in forest area near Jalan Cecily,’’ he said.

He urged public not to enter the jungle track if they start their jog late, as they could get lost in darkness.
