PETALING JAYA: Several netizens shared their environmental pledges on social media in conjunction with World Environment Day on Thursday.
Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming shared his environmental pledge on his Twitter account @imokman.
“I pledge to separate all of my rubbish at the source and to encourage my voters in Serdang to do the same,” he tweeted.
Ong also shared a picture of two containers with paper and magazines for recycling.
Twitter user @ATMology pledged to recycle the A4 papers in his office and ensure that both sides of the paper are utilised.
@DrAzharMerican from the Health Ministry pledged that he would use a hand cloth instead of tissues to wipe his washed hands.
@Scholar789 said he would try to conserve water by making sure that all water taps at home and public areas are turned off to reduce wastage.
“I aim to use less fossil fuel in my daily cooking,” writes Twitter user @Ah_Deet, adding that she will also reduce her electricity consumption.
Several netizens also pledged to start cycling.
Cycling group @twt_basikal promised that they would continue to ride their bikes, while @ShakirAmeer said he would start cycling to work.
@satya_VFABI pledged to keep her plastic usage to a minimum and to keep her surroundings clean.
Another tweeter @CarolineAswarni pledged “to utilise more paper bags as a substitute for plastic bags”.
Similarly, Facebook user Reha Dolphin pledged to use cloth or woven shopping bags rather than plastic bags.
“Whenever I buy food, I refuse to use styrofoam containers. I will carry my own food container to take away food,” said Reha.
“We should all start these good habits from home and lead a healthy lifestyle and protect the environment,” she added.
Michelle said that whenever possible, she would carpool with her friends and would buy local produce to reduce her carbon footprint.
Lin Yee pledged to promote sustainability by continuing to organise environmental campaigns for festivals, citing Eco-friendly Wesak as an example.
Another Facebook user Nadra ? Naim writes that she will participate in tree planting at home and will also join tree planting groups.
While ?? said that he hopes to start planting his own vegetables at home and will start cycling to work.
