KUALA LUMPUR: A masseuse was sentenced to one day's jail and fined RM700 for stealing a pair of shoes worth RM39.90.

Chia Sai Fong, 43, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at H&M, Lot 10, Jalan Bukit Bintang here at 12.25pm on Tuesday.

Magistrate Zuraini Abdul Razak in meting out the punishment reminded her: "Even though the pair of shoes does not cost much, what you did is still a serious offence."

According to the facts of the case, Chia had earlier entered the 'fitting room' on the lower floor before being confronted after trying to leave the shop with a plastic bag containing the red pair of shoes.

Deputy public prosecutor Haderiah Siri appeared for the prosecution. - Bernama
