IPOH: A Sunday lunch outing of a group of friends turned out to be a nightmare for a 32-year-old hardware shop worker when a tree fell on his car in front of the Perak Stadium food stalls here.

Michael Leong’s Proton Wira car broke into two as a result of the impact from the falling tree.

Relating the 3.30pm incident, Leong said it was only drizzling at first but that turned into rain and then a thunderstorm.

“I was chatting with my friends when there was a loud crash.

"I told them that I should check my car and true enough, it was mine that got hit by the tree.

“There were so many other cars parked there but it had to be my car,” said a distraught Leong.

Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department were the earliest to arrive on the scene as the incident took place just opposite its state headquarters.

About 20 fire personnel then proceeded to clear parts of the tree, which also caused damage to the monsoon drain next to it.

No one was injured in the incident.
