Bushfire brought under control

IPOH: The forest fire on Gunung Tempurung near the Sungai Siput Selatan new village in Kampar has been brought under control.

State Fire and Rescue Department director Yahaya Madis said firemen managed to create a firebreak at the bottom of the limestone mountain to stop the fire from spreading further.

“We still cannot access the mountain by foot and have to let the fire die out by itself around the rocky edges. About 20% of the mountain, mostly on the higher level, is still on fire.

“We are expecting rain in the next few days and hopefully, that will put out the fire completely,” he said.
