New VC for Universiti Malaya


Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Amin Jalaludin has been appointed Universiti Malaya (UM) vice-chancellor for a three-year term effective Nov 8.

Prof Amin will take over from his predecessor Prof Tan Sri Dr Ghauth Jasmon.

The ministry, in a statement, said Prof Amin’s appointment was based on its criteria taking into account his experience in the academic development of UM.

Before this, Dr Amin was UM’s deputy vice-chancellor (Academic and International Relations) and is a renowned expert in the field of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck surgery.

He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from UM in 1982 and was selected to be a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Malaysia in 1996.

The ministry thanked Prof Ghauth for his services as UM’s vice-chancellor. He had held the position from 2008.
