Varsity to host robot football tournament in Cyberjaya

FANS of football, Lego and robots finally have something to look forward to as Cyberview Sdn Bhd teamed up with Terato Tech to present the first Soccer Bot Challenge.

The challenge is a soccer match using pre-built EV3 robots, controlled via bluetooth on a mobile application for the iOS and Android platform.

The tournament, to be held on Sept 6 at Multimedia University in Cyberjaya. is expected to build at interest in robotics among students.

Technology Hub Development Division of Cyberview head Nazri Tumin hoped the competition would inspire students to pursue computer programming, network engineering and robotics engineering courses.

Participants also stand a chance to win cash prizes and medals.

Cyberview and Terato Tech has also teamed up with Lego to provide classes on EV3 robotics every Saturday since May.

“Developing Cyberjaya into a global technology hub begins with educating the next generation,” said Terato Tech managing director Reza Razali.

The tournament is open to students aged 10 to 18 years old while there is another category for those from higher learning institutions and companies aged 18 and above.

A team of two players is required to participate in the challenge.

Participation fee is at RM100 per team. Registration ends on Aug 29 or whenever the number of participation reaches 64 teams.
