Lee Yie Shin - for faces

ACCORDING to jewellery designer Lee Yie Shin, charity begins at home.

The 34-year-old was not only brought up in a warm family environment but also learned to perform good deeds from her parents by helping the less fortunate.

Leading an active lifestyle out of her love for outdoor activities and fitness, it was through the Original Bootcamp Malaysia that she met people from all walks of life and got actively involved in charity works, including taking part in charity runs.

She helps out at Pertiwi Soup Kitchen four times a week, providing food aid service and basic medical care to the homeless around the Klang Valley.

From there, she learned about non-governmental organisation Epic Homes and started getting involved in building homes for the orang asli.

“Through the workshops for new volunteers, I picked up basic skills to build homes from scratch such as drilling, hammering, sawing and nailing,” said Lee, who is a Unicef donor.

“Doing charity works and giving back to society helps me understand myself better.

“I have learned about what I want in life through the simplest things and being able to help someone by contributing something is fulfilling,” she said.

After being in the corporate world for more than 10 years, her recent switch to freelancing allowed Lee to start planning for upcoming fitness and charitable activities.

“You can do so much with a pair of hands and a kind heart. Appreciate what is around you and spend time with your family as well as those in need,” concluded Lee.
