Fire engulfs 26 motorcycles in Pasir Gudang


PASIR GUDANG: Some 26 motorcycles were engulfed in a fire at the Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Bhd (MMHE) facility here on Monday (Sept 9).

Pasir Gudang Fire station deputy chief Sarhan Akmal said the incident occurred at the company’s West Yard motorcycle parking bay.

“We received an emergency call at 10.03am and nine firefighters with two fire rapid tender vehicles arrived at the scene located about 4km at 10.09am,’’ he said in a statement on Monday.

Sarhan said the company’s emergency response team (ERT) put out the fire using 200-foot water hoses and 13 dry powder fire extinguishers.

“We closely monitor the fire extinguishing works, and also we carried out an inspection at the site,’’ he said, adding the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The operation led by senior officer I Anuar Abdullah ended at 10.30am.
