KANGAR: A 56-year-old lorry driver has been remanded for four days starting Wednesday (Sept 23) to assist investigations into allegedly hurting his wife at a house in Kampung Permatang Pauh, Simpang Empat, near here, on Sept 15.
Kangar OCPD Asst Comm Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the department arrested the man after his 49-year-old wife lodged a police report on Tuesday (Sept 22).
He said the suspect is believed to have slapped his wife on the left cheek, headbutted her, pushed her onto a sofa, and tried to strangle her during an argument at around 9.30pm.
"The housewife sustained bruises on her abdomen.
"The dispute reportedly arose when the victim advised her husband not to go out at night, suspecting he was meeting another woman," he said in a statement Wednesday.
ACP Yusharifuddin said the victim claimed marital disputes had continued for two years after she found messages between her husband and an unidentified woman on Facebook.
"Since then, the victim has often questioned her husband, who denied the allegations and allegedly slapped her when confronted. On one occasion, the suspect reportedly beat her until she lost consciousness," he said.
He added that police issued a Pol 59 medical examination form to the victim, who is receiving treatment and examination at Hospital Tuanku Fauziah (HTF) here.
Police are investigating the case under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act 1994. - Bernama
