KUALA LUMPUR: The country's first elevated electric bus service, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), which will ply a 5.4km route in and around Bandar Sunway here, was launched Monday.
This is the latest initiative to enhance mobility for commuters and reduce traffic congestion in the Klang Valley, particularly in the Bandar Sunway and Subang Jaya areas.
The service, which will begin on Tuesday, was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Najib, who announced that the BRT service would be provided free of charge for commuters for two months, said it would provide commuters an alternative transportation.
"I believe the BRT system will provide some relief from the traffic congestion in the area. I am also pleased to see that this project is the result of a successful partnership between the public and private sector," he said.
The RM634mil project is a collaboration between Prasarana Malaysia Berhad and Sunway Berhad.
