The suspect, a fisherman in his 30s, had not slept for four consecutive nights before the incident in Kg Pondo in Pulau Gaya, Kota Kinabalu. The 54-year-old victim was found dead with severe wounds and burns all over her body. The couple's foster child was not spared from the brutal attack and almost lost his left hand. The child has been sent to Likas Women's and Children's Hospital, while the suspect has surrendered to the police.

A hornbill has made a fast-food joint at a petrol station along Jalan Skudai, Johor Baru, its home. State wildlife department Perhilitan has advised the general public not to disturb the bird, which is a species fully protected under the Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1998. The bird has turned the signboard of the fast-food joint into its nest and was seen carrying twigs back into its "home". A Perhilitan spokesman said it was a rare sight as the hornbill does not usually choose to live in an urban environment.

An 80-year-old man depicted in a controversial mural along Jalan Tun Sambathan in Ipoh has viewed it himself for the first time. There was speculation earlier that the drawing depicted former Malayan communist Chin Peng but the Ipoh City Council denied it. Lim Peng Swee, from Penang, and 13 family members took photos in front of the mural that shows him sipping coffee, during their visit to Ipoh on Sunday. "I am happy to see the mural. I was supposed to come with Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic but he is not free. I will come with him one day," said Lim, who joked that he became popular because of the mural by Zacharevic. Lim said he got to know Zacharevic when the artist helped out at his niece's coffee shop in Penang several years ago.
